A new perspective for &SONS - AVAILABLE NOW
Taking the best from the past for the here and now means before we can design a future classic, we must reflect on what has come before.
The highlight of Summer or the low sun delivered on a crisp winters morning means, like many of our products, eyewear is an all-season investment. And like any investment, we wanted to produce a piece that would stand the test of time. We never chase trends and always look back to create that classic silhouette you’ve come to expect from &SONS.
Phil reflected on the icons of style and the eras of fashion when eyewear was as crucial to an outfit as the crisp button-down shirt or pleated trouser. A period of time that evokes cool, understated style - The 50s.
Phil took this classic design with thicker frames and metal detailing to create our first pair of sunglasses. To pay homage to this period, we have finished the sunglasses in tortoiseshell. We’ve introduced a unique metal detailing on the hinge that wraps effortlessly around to the front, further enhancing the retro silhouette.
Limited run of 250 per colour.
Since the very beginning of &SONS I have wanted to produce a range of eyewear. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved with our first pair. Phil James - Founder / Creative Director
A new perspective for &SONS
Origins
The first sunglasses were invented in the 12th Century in China and used a simple slab or quartz to block out sunlight. It's also thought that judges opted for a smoked coloured lens to avoid showing emotion in particular cases.
As time moved on, so did innovation. In the 18th Century, colours lenses were intruded to improve vision in poor light as it was believed a blue or green tint could correct certain impairments.
Fast forward to the modern day and sunglasses are now part of peoples daily outfits, ranging in design from sleek, minimal frames to style statements made to make an impression.
