The BOULDER Overshirt - Inspired by the elements and crafted for comfort.
A boulder is a natural phenomenon, a rock forged by the elements that have travelled far from its original location. This definition inspired our latest release, the BOULDER Overshirt, crafted from a soft wool blend.
This is the new version of our much-loved Boulder shirt. The BOULDER balances natural tones of darker grey compared to the original, with rich browns from the leather-look buttons. This muted palette provides an ideal layering garment to be worn with almost anything.
Design
An overshirt is often boxy and oversized, creating an unflattering look for the wearer. We opted to retain a similar silhouette to our other shirts. This shape holds its form and delivers a flattering shape when worn as a mid-layer or overshirt. The aesthetics have been simplified, avoiding heavy-duty pockets and contrasting colours whilst keeping clean lines and subtle details.
To create the perfect utilitarian garment we have introduced pockets around the lower part of the shirt, creating a practical feature and chore jacket aesthetic. The cuffs and neckline are finished with a cotton twill trim for comfort and the entire shirt is lined with rich cotton.
The Boulder shirt is awesome....looks fantastic and is super comfy and warm (the fab quality goes without saying!). Highly recommended.
a modern tribute to the timeless style
Origins
The overshirt has a complicated and intriguing history. The latest carnation is an amalgam of three or four casual garments, ranging from military undershirts to civilian work jackets.
Traditionally, three-pocket overshirts with revere collars and boxy cuts have their origins in early 20th-century European workwear. Labourers, craftspeople and artists initially wore the overshirt to cover up their suits and ties in an era before uniforms. The breast pocket was a convenient addition to stash tools adding further practical features for the wearer.
Chunky four-pocket overshirts with bellows pockets on the chest have a more utilitarian look, and their origins lie in the shirts worn by British soldiers at the turn of the 20th century. Troops deployed to Europe would be issued shirts with practical chest or hip pockets in cotton twill or flannel, which became a defining garment in their uniform.
